Herlandsfjellet via Skåldalsnipa and Skåldalsfjellet

Dato:
14.06.2015
Turtype:
Fjelltur
Turlengde:
3:00t
Distanse:
9,4km

Driving up Gullfjellsvegen, which leads to the parking place right next to Osavatnet, we parked already early, where a small street leaves to the left, up Skålsdalen. We first followed this small street, which steeply winds towards a few houses. Before the very end of the asphalt road, we left towards the left, first along a simple tracktor track, then across the steep medow up towards the ridge, which then leads up to Skåldalsnipa. On the ridge, we connected to a simple path, which nicely lead us up to Skåldalsnipa -- the last meters underneath a material lift, which extends there from Skålsdalen. From Skåldalsnipa, we continued via the heights, mostly in a northeasterly direction and quite a bit into the direction of Arna / Reppadalen. Then we crossed Larsmyren -- quite wet indeed! >>>

Starting from NUTEC, we first connected (via some stairs in the back of Hesteviken and through the forest along a simple path) to the path (called Mørderbakken!), which leads up to Ørnafjellet from the east (quite steep, but not as bad as the name would suggest). Once on the ridge, we turned left to quickly ascend to Ørnafjellet, where we turned. Back, we took the path that connects to the road, which we then descended back to NUTEC. Web page WestCoastPeaks.com provides useful information about Lyderhorn and Ørnafjellet . Web page SpillBy.com describes Ørnafjellet and web page FotTurer.com describes a tour up Ørnafjellet .

Starting from Betanien, we first connected to Nordnæsdalsveien (via Jonstadveien), before we turned right, shortly after passing the boom, then following a nice path that lead us up to Olsokfjellet (from the south). From Olsokfjellet, we connected to Damsgårdsfjellet, and from there we continued in a westerly direction, descending (steep!) to Skaret. Up on the other side, we crossed Holefjellet and continued towards Nygårdsnipa. Changing more and more into a southerly direction, we ascended Gravdalsfjellet (from the north). Continuing our round, we passed by Viggohytten -- or what remains now, after the hut burned down, recently! From there, mostly heading eastwards, we quickly connected back to Vestlund and to Betanien. All in all, a nice easy hike in beautiful summer weather! :-)

Starting from Kirsten Flagstads vei, we first went up Rosenlundveien (in the direction towards Strutsefarmen). Before actually getting to the farm, we turned left and continued steeply upwards until the street makes a larger swing to the right. There, one can leave the street and continue, first between some trees, and then under a line (telephone line?), more or less directly up towards Løvstakken. Up via a really steep path, one quickly gets to the top of Løvstakken (it took us less than 25 mins. to ascend, making about 360 height meters in this time). From the top, we descended first in the direction of Gullsteinen, before we turned right (again into the direction towards Strutsefarmen). But also this time, we did not continue all the way to the farm, but left the main path and found >>>

Geitanuken

We started from Nordre Toppe and ascended quickly to the ridge in the west that leads up to Geitanuken (via Vedskaråsen and Novvarden). Due to recent rain, the path was slippery and wet. Still, this hike up Geitanuken from the northwest is nice and easy and very enjoyable! Also, one can enjoy several nice views over Byfjorden and Askøy, etc. Once on Geitanuken, we continued towards Åsane, i.e., towards south-southeast, descending via a path that is steeper than what we had walked up (still no problem at all -- just slippery after the rain). We got down to Myrdalskogen and passed by the houses through the near forrest -- staying close to the houses, though. From a large turn of Myrdalskogen road, we turned left (in northeasterly direction), descending steeply first and ascending then >>>

Leirvågfjellet i Fana

We parked at the parking place at Korsneset, right where the (narrow) road enters a military area. From there, we first followed a forest road northwards, before turning to the right, where there seemed to be a path. The eastwards path passed north of Moldstigahaugen, descending again on the other, eastern side of this hill. We decided to ascend to the top of Moldstigahaugen (from the eastern side). Afterwards, we followed a (rather less than more visible) path northwards towards Leirvågfjellet. The view from this top is quite nice in all directions! We continued further northwards, finding a possibility to descend down to the saddle between Leirvågfjellet and Kampen. From there we followed a reasonably well visible path towards the north-northwest (below the steep western slope of >>>

Ørnafjellet i Bergen

We parked north of Gravdal (near Nutec) and followed the road up the northern slope of Lyderhorn (until where it enters the military area). We then followed the path along the southern fence of this area, heading southeast towards Ørnafjellet. From the top of Ørnafjellet, we enjoyed the views over Byfjorden (to the north) and to Lyderhorn and Damsgårdsfjellet (to the south and east). We then aimed at finding the path down the eastern slope of Ørnafjellet, directly to Gravdal, but we left the path, which we had taken up Ørnafjellet much too early. This made us descend through a moderately steep forest (without any path). While doable, this part was not most enjoyable and it should be recommended to follow the actual path downwards. Once down in Gravdal, we returned to the car along >>>

Starting from the parking place near Myrdalsvatnet, we first followed the path around the lake. Soon, we followed the path upwards that also is known as Kubakkane. Shortly before reaching the top, where one would get over to Totland, again, we turned right and fought a short bush war up to Haggardsrinden. From the top, one has a very nice view in all directions! Then, we descended basically towards the same path (Kubakkane), which we only crossed to continued northwards towards Kolhusfjellet. Also up to Kolhusfjellet, we did not really find a good path and so we ascended through the forest. Also from this top, one has very nice views, mostly towards west, via Nordåsvatnet, towards Sotra. We then crossed Kolhusfjellet and descended to Furedalen. Once down in the valley, we turned back >>>

Starting from Lyngbø, we first walked up the street through Lyngbødalen, up to the dam of Skitnetjørna. From there, we followed the ridge, before we crossed over and ascended to Tennebekksnipa from north. We enjoyed nice views of Lyderhorn and Tennebekktjørna. We descended to Tennebekktjørna, before we returned, following the path through Trongedalane. Before going down, again, on this path, we turned right and up the ridge, again, from which we descended to see Skitnetjørna (which we followed on its western side, back to the dam). All in all, a "small is beautiful" tour! :-) Selected photos are available as Google+ photo album .

Starting from Varden, we first followed Bjørgeveien for a short distance, then turned left into Kjerreidvika. At the seaside, right opposite to Håkonsvern with all its military ships, we started to follow the shoreline -- first on a path, then directly on the short. At the bottom of Hestabakken, we too a look at a (really) small lighthouse. The area is interesting -- one gets the impression that earlier (during WWII?) some major construction work was done here. After a bit more along the shore, we followed a steep, but easy to climb, ridge up into the direction of Kampen. Eventually, however, we ascended to Straumefjellet, instead, and then returned from there via Bjørndalsskogen. At the very end of Bjørndalssskogen, near house #172, there is a small playing ground for kids -- from >>>
