I am not sure what first drew me towards mountains, but whatever it was it has stayed for nearly 20 years. My first proper taste of hiking started with a walk up Ben Nevis in non-ideal hiking clothes at the age of 13 while on holiday with some friends of a family. Being typical Scottish summer weather, my only memories of that are mist, light rain and no views. It seems this experience was still enjoyable enough that I have ended up being drawn back to various mountains ever since. Before moving to Tromsø in the autumn of 2011 I have usually managed to work and save hard enough to be able to afford a trip to one of the greater ranges on an almost-yearly basis, but this isn't necessary now that I have so many mountains to enjoy right at my doorstep!
