Klemmartinden

This weekend I was taking part in a skredworkshop in Malangen with the fjellsportgruppa. While not everyone was able to leave early on the friday, some of us did and chose to take the opportunity to go on a ski trip. We met up on a rainy friday lunchtime at ICA Langnes and organised car driving etc. A little over half of the group set course for Trollholtindan while the remaining 6 of us would make an attempt on Klemmartindan. In our rather small group were myself, Renate, Aslak, Lars and two of the instructors Svein and Yngve.
Fortunately the rain stopped while we drove to Malangen but the temperature was insanely warm, I think it was 6 or 7 degrees when we left the cars at Slåttvika! Unsurprisingly there was a fair amount of sugeføre in the lower part of the forest, not something I was particularly >>>

After a whole morning of not being able to sit in the office and be work-focused, I decided I would make the most of the amazing autumn/late summer weather and go for a walk up Rakeltinden. I didn’t have a lot of reasons for choosing the mountain before the trip, other than that I had not already been there and I also found out it was well-marked with a nice route discription on godtur.no. And since I was still ’testing’ out my knees without any knee supports, I thought a not-too-steep trip would not be the worst idea ever. Unfortunately it took forever to get to the mountain because of the ongoing roadworks in Lavangsdalen. Despite all the hold-ups though, I was parked up in Markenes and ready to get going at around 1.30pm in 18-degree sunshine and a comfortable breeze.
The trip started >>>

Store Russetinden

Fjellsportgruppa in Tromso arranged this trip to Store Russetinden, the first hike of the year to begin the summer season. I was very excited to not only be joining a group of new people and have their company, but also to be making an ascent of one of the most beautiful mountains I've ever seen from the E8. So we met up at Nansenplass at 0900 and had a short briefing from the turleder Harald before making the road trip down to Nordkjosbotn in a convoy of 4 cars. I had in my car 3 other girls; Mona from Trondheim, Maja from Denmark and Lena who was from the Balsfjord area (quite a local!). We had a nice chat while driving through a sunlit Ramfjord, and then through Lavangsdalen toward Balsfjord. All the familiar mountains were starting to come into view for me, but the difference was on this >>>
Andersdaltinden

The weather was forecasted to be 12 degrees and sunshine, so I seized the moment and decided to go on a trip instead of going to work! I decided to return to Andersdaltinden, since I had not made the summit on the previous attempt almost 2 weeks earlier because of really strong winds on the mountain. Parked up at about 0915 at the bottom near the information area and began the hike up through the forests. The snow was, as I expected, super soft but seemed quite stable. But it was mega hard work, and many times during the first half hour of the hike I didn't think I would bother going much farther before giving up on the mission! However, I had my mp3 player banging out some great tunes and since there was no hurry to get back I made a point of persevering with the hike and just thought of the >>>

The hike up Blåtinden was a something of a multi-visit trip, since I had made an ascent of this mountain in the autumn of 2011 with my sister, and remember the views as being really good, especially when you get quite high on to the upper slopes of the mountain. Then, in January I also took a hike in the hope of seeing the sun make its return back to the Arctic, but the hike had taken me a very long time (we're talking like 2 hours here), just to get up and above the forests on the very lowest part of the mountain - simply because there had been such deep snow to hike through and at that point in the season had not discovered the possible benefits of snow shoes or skis......! This time however, I had plenty of daylight and was armed with snow shoes. When I parked at the foot of the mountain >>>
Blåtinden (den Sovende Soldat)

A stable spell of weather during the week that my sister was visiting meant that we really had to get out onto another mountain and make the most of the beautiful sunshine and cloudless skies. Took the 45 minute drive down through Lavangsdalen to Skogvoll and parked up just close to the start of the footpath. Brilliant views out over Balsfjord all the way up through the forest and out onto the grass. Quite a lot of other hikers out on this nice day. Got stunning views out to the Lyngen Alps after getting onto the upper section of the mountain. Quite steep in places but no scrambling was needed, which was good because my sister didn't like too much exposure! Path was easy to follow, and the view to Andersdaltinden, Svartnestinden and Sultindan were very impressive too. Had a spot of lunch at >>>
