© Lyngve Skrede Ettersom jeg skulle til østen likevel, fant jeg ut at et stopp i Dubai med Emirates Airlines var en god anledning til å sanke flere nasjonstopper. Egentlig hadde jeg tenkt å ta bare UAE og Oman. Men da den erfarne nasjonstopp-sankeren Lars (Snilen) kastet seg med på turen, ble det plutselig mer fokus på kvantum enn kvalitet, så vi ble enige om å få med oss Bahrain og Qatar i samme slengen. Det var en glimrende ide, men den planen hadde små feilmarginer hvis noe skulle skje. Long trek to the top of Bangladesh

A very rarely climbed peak, Mowdok Mual was first discovered in 2006 as the highest mountain in Bangladesh. Still hardly any knows about this, and the information is still very scarce. According to www.banglatrek.org there has been less than 50 people to its summit (as of January 2011), but the visitor numbers are likely to increase a lot over the next few years. My trip is the second recorded ascent by a foreigner, after the famous country-highpoint collector Ginge Fullen from England "found" the mountain in 2006. It's right on the border with Myanmar, and in the heart of the Chittagong Hilltracts, an area which Lonely Planet still have warning about. Phnom Aural

Det tok en hel dag å komme seg inn til foten av fjellet med offentlig transport fra Phnom Penh til Spien Daik (via Kampong Speu), og avslutningsvis i en vill ferd bakpå en motorsykkel til den lille landsbyen Srae Kan 3. Her fikk jeg leid en lokal guide for 2 dager på fjellet (25 USD per dag). Etter en overnatting i et homestay i Srae Kan 3, bar det videre på guiden sin motorsykkel (30 minutter) før vi parkerte den og begynte å gå i en høyde på ca 200 m.o.h. Vi nådde highcamp (1150m) allerede til lunsj etter ca 3 timer, så det ble mye dødtid her. Jeg hadde kjøpt inn hengekøye i Phnom Penh, men det ble fryktelig kaldt i highcamp uten pledd eller sovepose, så jeg måtte holde bålet igang hele natten igjennom for å ikke fryse. Mount Pulag by the Ambangeg-trail

© Lyngve Skrede We signed on a guided trip to Mount Pulag with www.trailadventours.com, because that was actually cheaper than trying to do it by ourselves. Cheaper because of the shared transportation to the trailhead and also the share of guide. Having a local guide on the mountain is mandatory to get a permit anyway.... It was a big surprise to find out that more than 50 hikers had signed up for this trip. We joined at the Victory Liner bus station in Pasay (Manila) in the evening Dec 27. From there we took the 6-hours nightbus to Baguio City, which we arrived before sunrise. Here the three chartered jeepneys waited for us, so the second leg of the journey along the scenic Halsema Highway could start almost immediately. Kanlaon by the Guintubdan trail

Kanlaon is the highest active volcano in the Philippines, and since we were not far away, we decided to go for it. First we visited the DENR office in Bacolod and got a permit after 1-2 hours (the rules say you should apply 3 months in advance though). The permit fee is 300 pesos per person. The DENR office also arranged a local guide. This is mandatory to get a permit, and the guide fee is 500 pesos per day. Next morning we took a local bus from Bacolod to La Carlota (30 pesos), then a local jeepney from La Carlota to Guintubdan (30 pesos). Here we met the guide and shortly after we started on the 5-6 hours hike from 900 meters elevation to saddle camp at 2300 meter. It was hot and humid in the rainforest, partly very steep too. Bestemte meg for 1 uke med backpacking og ørkenvandring i Jordan for å få med meg alle severdigheter i dette praktfulle landet (verden er mer enn fjelltopper): -Madaba og Mt Nebo -Dødehavet -Kings Highway med enorme canyons -Kakar -Petra Sandstone City (New 7 Wonders of the World) -Jebel Haroun (ca 1350m), høyeste fjell i Petra -Wadi Rum ørkenen i fotsporene til Lawrence of Arabia -Aqaba ved Rødehavet -Amman Og selvsagt hovedmålet Jabal Umm ad Dami, høyeste fjellet i Jordan og nesten på grensen til Saudi Arabia. Ingen andre å dele kostnader med på en såpass spesiell tur, så betalte ca 200 USD for 2 dager og 1 natt i Wadi Rum ørkenen med en lokal beduin guide. Men det må sies å være ekstremt bra "value for money" med tanke på alle de timene som medgikk til kjøring på sand-stier >>>
