Raudhorn (17.07.2015)

We decided that Raudhorn would be a good first peak above 1000m to take with our 11 month old. We walked in from the Raudøla 2013 bridge and took the new (approx 2010/2011) road up towards Kjøsastølen and then turned left so came to the sti from the other direction from normal. We turned right into the woods on to a pretty clearly defined path, climbing steeply. The path through the woods has recently been remarked with red dashes on trees and rocks. The marking stops once you get above the tree line and then the view takes over! We walked over the moorland towards the peak with excellent views all round due to the fine clear conditions. As we neared the peak and the final ascent we opted to approach the peak from the south west, using the middle track marked on the 2008 Ugland IT map, to avoid the steep final climb of the more normal route. Our route variation worked well with reasonable conditions under foot all the way to the top. We spent 45 minutes at the top enjoying the views and then made a quick descent into the dale. One to be repeated.
